Tata Open All India Badminton Tournament
The throbbing financial centre of India, Mumbai was buzzing with sporting activity in the month of July. The season's first national ranking event, the second edition of the Tata Open All India Badminton Tournament 2009, brought in the top players of the country. A precursor to the World Championships in August, the Tata Open saw some high class badminton with the men's singles draw attracting the current national champion, Arvind Bhat along with Chetan Anand, Anup Sridhar, Anand Pawar and Ajay Jayaram. The women's singles had current national champion Sayali Gokhale vying for the title along with Aditi Mutatkar, Trupti Murgunde, Neha Pandit and Gayatri Vartak.
Adding the glamour quotient were actor par excellence, Aamir Khan and the latest Bollywood sensation, Deepika Padukone.
While Sayali Bhagat had an easy victory over Neha Pandit to win the women's singles final, Chetan Anand was stretched fully by Anand Pawar before getting the men's singles title.
