Jharkhand Premier League 2011

An initiative of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, Jharkhand Cricket League was meant to nurture budding cricketers. The JPL drew a lot of attention and proved to be a huge success; both on ground and on air. Sportzworkz produced the event which was telecast live on premier Sports Channel Ten Cricket.

Played at the International Stadium in Ranchi from 12th to 19th March 2011, the JPL saw five Teams in its inaugural edition: Ranchi Rangers, Jamshedpur Janbaaz, Dhanbad Diamonds, Bokaro Bulls and Singhbhum Shers.

The spectators also got to see Indian stars Saurabh Tiwary, Ishank Jaggi and Varun Aaron in action. Saurav Tiwary played for the Bokaro Bulls and although he failed to lead his team into the finals, he played some extraordinary knocks for his team. Ishank Jaggi played for the Ranchi Rangers while India’s fastest bowler Varun Aaron played for the Singhbhum Shers.

After the completion of the league phase, Singhbhum Shers and the Ranchi Rangers played the first semifinal. Singhbhum’s 203/7 in 20 overs proved too much for the Ranchi team as the Shers stormed into the final with a 75 run win.

The second semifinal between Dhanbad Diamonds and Jamshedpur Janbaaz went right down to the wire with the team from Jamshedpur finally prevailing with a 5 run victory to book a place in the finals alongside Singhbhum.

Singhbhum Shers got the better of Jamshedpur Janbaaz by 27 runs in the final to be the winner of the first edition of the Jharkhand Premier League.
