Gun For Glory Shooting Championship 2011

Shooting has never been considered a spectator friendly or TV friendly sport. And Gun for Glory Shooting Championship 2011 was organised to deny this fact. The national level event was organized by “Gun for Glory Shooting Academy” which is an initiative by Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee Gagan Narang and India’s Assistant coach Pawan Kumar. Sportzworkz produced a half an hour special show on this event which was telecast on ESPN.

The event was organised in Balewadi Shooting ranges in Pune from 3rd to 9th Aug 2011 in which national regulations event were conducted alongside the ISSF events. To make the sport more popular and spectator friendly, events like and Challenger Cup and fans competition were organised as well. 

The Fans competition received a great response from the local public as they got a chance to shoot in the shooting ranges. There were prizes for the winners of the Fans competitions as well. Challenger Cup was another such initiative which was tried for the first time in India. A shooter had to shoot one shot point than his or her opponent. Spectators were allowed to cheer and shout and the shooter had to shoot in that kind of high pressure situation.

Veterans like Anjali Bhagwat, Samresh Jung, Anuja Jung, Tejaswini Sawant and Suma Shirur participated in the event while the presence of Bollywood star Nana Patekar as the special guest made the event much more exciting.
