Asian Billiards Championship

Pune hosted this annual show of strength on the green baize. Played in the month of February, The Asian Billiards Championships saw the best in Asia parading their skills in the 3-ball format, at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana.

As many as 9 Indians participated in this edition and the field was being led by India and Asia's no. 1 player Geet Sethi. The cueists were divided into 3 groups for the leagues stage. The top 2 players from each of the three groups, alongwith the two best losers made it to the quarter finals.

The quarter final line up proved yet again what a super power we are in Billiards, with as many as 5 Indians making it. But upsetting all the calculations of the pundits, young Pankaj Advani was the Indian representaive in the final. His opponent was the inimitable Thai C Praput. And after a fierce battle, the young Indian prevailed over his Thai opponent.

With this victory, Advani has announced to the world that he is now a force to reckon. While speaking to Sportzworkz after the victory, the 19-year old said, that this win was particularly satisfying as he came back after losing one of his league matches.

In an endeavour to promote and encourage table sports, Sportzworkz made a one hour documentary look of the event and that was telecast on TEN Sports on the 13th of March, 2005.

Sportzworkz hopes to make this a permanent relationship with the Billiards, Snooker and Pool fraternity in India, in order to give the game its due. Keep watching for more in this space for more updates on table sports in India.

TEN SPORTS is also promoting this Episode in a big way. They are showing 72 promos of this show. For the same said Peter Hutton –“We are airing this episode for a cause. First it’s an ode to the Champs Foundation & our long association with the Mcdowells.”

Charu Sharma, the Event Director, is also the presenter of this show. This episode has been shot with three cameras.
